The School of Engineering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at NUI Galway, supported by the Ryan Institute, MaREI Research Centre and Engineers Ireland West Region Committee, are organising a webinar titled ‘Engineering, quality of life and elite sport – three sides of the same coin’ at 2-3pm on Monday, 10th May 2021. We would like to invite you to join us for the webinar.

This webinar will show how collaboration between engineers and elite athletes can not only improve the state-of-the-art in aerodynamics’ research, but also impact people’s quality of life and help winning gold medals. The speakers on the day include Mark Rohan, a gold-winning para-cyclist and former Gaelic football and wheelchair basketball player, and Dr. Paul Mannion, an expert engineer in aerodynamics’ simulation. Mark will talk about his experience of becoming an elite athlete, training involved, highs and lows, and rewards that getting involved in sport brings. Paul will give an overview of his aerodynamics research and show how engineering can influence the results of elite cycling races.

There is no booking required. Participants can join the webinar via Zoom at the following link:
